Lunchtime at IRC

Now that the nice weather has finally arrived, we hope to have outdoor lunch for IRC students whenever possible.

This means that all students in grades 1-6 will be dismissed to the school yard at 11:45 a.m. to eat lunch outside under the supervision of IRC’s lunchroom supervisors. Students who go home for lunch will be dismissed by their classroom teachers to the yard also.

Please remind children to wear a sun hat and sunscreen so that they can enjoy this extra time outside safely.

**Sorry for the confusion with lunch pick-ups this past week as we have been transitioning  to dismissing all children to the schoolyard.**

Dismissal to the yard at lunchtime will now be the regular practice, effective immediately.

Thank you for meeting your child at their entry door and therefore helping us to ease the congestion at the front entrance doors during lunch dismissal.

GET LOUD spirit day

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Outdoor lunches have finally arrived at IRC!

A Reminder!
Please ensure that children who remain at school for lunch bring their litter-less lunch with them to school in the morning.   This is very important so that we may ensure adequate supervision during the lunch hour and decrease the need for lunch pick-ups in the office.  With parent support, we can continue to help IRC students be independent and responsible for their lunch bag and snacks.
Thank you for your support of the lunch program at IRC!

Water Safety

WATER SAFETY
WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT

Weather Conditions:
Toronto and Region Conservation advises that Environment Canada is forecasting 15-30 mm of rainfall for the Greater Toronto Area. The rain will into Friday morning. With this weather system, there is a possibility of thundershowers which may result in 30-50 mm of rain in localized areas.

Issues:
While significant flooding is not expected at this time, the forecasted rainfall will cause high flows and water levels in Greater Toronto Area creeks and rivers, resulting in unsafe conditions.

Actions:
Please exercise caution around all bodies of water.  Please alert any children under your care of these dangerous conditions and supervise their activities.

This Water Safety Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Friday, May 16, 2014.

Tell Provincial Candidates that Public Education is Important to You!
The 2014 Ontario Provincial Election is fast approaching and will take place on June 12.
Trustee – Irene Atkinson, TDSB and Trustee – Barbara Poplawski, TCDSB have organized an evening to meet and hear from the candidates seeking election in our riding of Parkdale High Park.

There are many significant education issues facing teachers, parents, students, and our community from funding inequities, testing results, over capacity schools, school rejuvenation, learning in a digital world, to support for special needs students. All of these issues are directly impacted by provincial politics.

This All Candidates' Meeting is your chance to learn the candidates' views on public education, ask your own questions and show politicians that education is important to you!

Soap it Up community car wash

Hello IRC Parents,

We are looking for IRC families that would like to participate in the "Soap it Up" community car wash and BBQ on Saturday June 21st.

100% of the proceeds will be donated, a portion to Cystic Fibrosis and a PORTION to the IRC FUN FAIR!  Last year, Car Star donated over $800 towards the Fun Fair!!

A community car wash and BBQ is happening at all 200 Carstar Collision & Glass Service locations across Canada. In addition to their support of CF, each Carstar location chooses a community recipient of a large donation (hundreds of dollars). Our local Carstar has chosen IRC. To show our gratitude we need IRC parents & children to come out on Saturday.

Where:  CARSTAR, 2528 St. Clair Ave. West (across from Wal-Mart)
When:  Saturday, June 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (come for any period of time)

If you would like to join in the fun, please email Amrita at amritajohnson@rogers.com

Thanks in advance!

JK/SK Before- and After-School Program

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As part of full-day kindergarten, each year our school surveys parents for their interest in a fee-based before- and after-school program for kindergarten students.  Based on this year’s survey completed during February, there is initial interest in a program for September 2014. Please note that a program will only run if there is a firm commitment from enough parents (i.e., fee deposit).

We are working with our local YMCA  to provide a before- and after-school program for kindergarten students.  In order to receive information directly from the YMCA regarding fees, space availability and registration, please  fill out and return the form below by May 12,  2014.

Registration for the  Before and After School program will take place at Indian Road Crescent P.S. on Tuesday May 13th from 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Transportation to and from the before- and after-school program is not provided and will be the responsibility of parents/guardians.

If your family is currently receiving a child care subsidy you will be able to keep your subsidy for the before- and after-school program. The City of Toronto oversees fee subsidy. For information regarding a subsidy please visit the City’s website at www.toronto.ca/children or you may call 311.

If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

Yours sincerely,

Anne MacDonald
