SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Two weeks ago, we wrote to you about a suspicious incident in the Quebec and Annette area. At that time, it was reported that a man in a white truck had approached a 13 year-old girl as she made her way to school one morning and asked her to enter the vehicle. On November 27, police issued a community safety alert about that incident and another that was reported the next day.

We have learned about a similar situation that was reported to have happened yesterday afternoon (December 2nd) in our community. Five teenage girls from a neighbouring high school were walking together on Evelyn Crescent when they were approached by a white truck with four men inside. One of the men asked the girls to get into the truck. The girls did the right thing to remove themselves from the area and quickly return to their school to report the incident to staff. Police were immediately called.

For your information, the driver of the truck had an olive complexion and was wearing a blue toque and a dark burgundy bulky coat. The passengers, one in the front and two in the back, were all white with facial stubble, and were wearing toques. The man in the front passenger seat had on a grey sweater. The truck had an extended cab and an open flatbed. The left back side of the truck had flickering tail lights. There was green writing or a stripe on the side of the truck and the inside of the truck was all black. If you have any information that might assist police with its investigation, please call 416-808-1100 or contact CrimeStoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.222tips.com.

Our staff speak regularly with students about how to stay safe. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to reinforce these messages at home by reviewing the accompanying safety tips (on the reverse of this letter) with your children.
Let’s continue to work together to make our community as safe as possible.

Sincerely,

JK/SK Before- and After-School Program

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As part of full-day kindergarten, each year our school surveys parents for their interest in a fee-based before- and after-school program for kindergarten students.  Based on this year’s survey completed during February, there is initial interest in a program for September 2014. Please note that a program will only run if there is a firm commitment from enough parents (i.e., fee deposit).

We are working with our local YMCA  to provide a before- and after-school program for kindergarten students.  In order to receive information directly from the YMCA regarding fees, space availability and registration, please  fill out and return the form below by May 12,  2014.

Registration for the  Before and After School program will take place at Indian Road Crescent P.S. on Tuesday May 13th from 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Transportation to and from the before- and after-school program is not provided and will be the responsibility of parents/guardians.

If your family is currently receiving a child care subsidy you will be able to keep your subsidy for the before- and after-school program. The City of Toronto oversees fee subsidy. For information regarding a subsidy please visit the City’s website at www.toronto.ca/children or you may call 311.

If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

Yours sincerely,

Anne MacDonald

Welcome to our Parent Council Blog!

Over the past few months, IRC’s Parent Council has been discussing how we can better communicate with our community.  One of the major challenges is getting information to families in a timely manner.  By the time our Wednesday mail-outs go home, the information contained in them is old news! Thanks to the interest and determination of an IRC Kindergarten parent, Marta Hooper, our communication is about to enter the 21st century!

Marta has created the IRC blog, where you will now be able to receive IRC news as it happens!
Blog subscribers can be assured that when new messages are posted, they will receive an e-mail.
(Don’t worry! You’ll only receive a maximum of one email per day.) So please don't forget to subscribe to our blog by submitting your email address on the right of the screen, directly below the "About our school" section  >>>>

I look forward to sharing IRC information on the blog on a regular basis.
Please follow us on the blog - we look forward to keeping you connected and up-to- date!
